JOB TITLE: Maintenance & Grounds Staff CLASS: 51 – Seasonal
DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation
LOCATION: Multiple (Freeman Lake Park, American Legion Park, Trails, Ball Park Maintenance)
REPORTS TO: American Legion Park Manager
POSITION OVERVIEW
Maintenance & Grounds Staff provide hands-on support for the upkeep and maintenance of City of Elizabethtown parks and facilities. This position is available at multiple park locations, including Freeman Lake Park, American Legion Park, and city ball fields.
Applicants hired for this position will be assigned to one primary park or facility for the season. While applicants may indicate a preferred work location during the hiring process, final placement will be determined by the Parks & Recreation Department based on operational needs.
This role focuses on outdoor, physical work and is ideal for individuals who enjoy working as part of a team to maintain clean, safe, and well-kept public spaces. Staff may also assist with city-sponsored events and maintenance of other city-owned properties as assigned.
Examples of Duties
- Perform routine grounds maintenance, including mowing, weed eating, trimming, and general landscaping
- Assist with ball field and soccer field preparation and maintenance
- Perform general park maintenance such as trash collection, cleaning, and minor upkeep
- Assist with playground area maintenance and inspections
- Support setup and breakdown for city-sponsored events
- Operate basic maintenance equipment as assigned
- Perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Willingness to perform physically demanding work
- Applicants who are 18 years of age or older with a valid Kentucky Driver’s License may be required to operate city-owned vehicles in accordance with city policy
- Willingness to learn and follow safety procedures
Additional Information
- This is a seasonal position with the Parks & Recreation Department
- Work schedules are primarily weekdays, with occasional weekend or event-related hours
- Schedule flexibility, reliability, and attendance are essential
- Training will be provided for all assigned duties and equipment
