WESBANCO TO SPONSOR FOUNDERS’ DAY FIREWORKS 2020
WesBanco partners with The City of Elizabethtown once again to present Founders’ Day 2020 July 4th. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, however, the event will be quite different than in year’s past.
The City has partnered with Hardin County Schools and the Elizabethtown Community and Technical College to ensure a safe and effective fireworks show to celebrate July 4th and Elizabethtown’s birthday. The fireworks will be executed near EC3 and the ECTC campus.
There will not be any scheduled events around the Founders’ Day celebration that promote gathering of large groups of people at Freeman Lake Park.
“WesBanco is honored to continue to partner with the City of Elizabethtown to sponsor the annual Founders’ Day Event,” said Marilyn Ford, WesBanco City President, Heartland Region. “With this historically-challenging year of 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic, we need now, perhaps more than ever in our lifetimes, to take every opportunity to celebrate as many special occasions as possible. The City always does a fantastic job of orchestrating a great celebration of the common birthdays of both our City and Nation. Although the 2020 celebration will be different than previous years, it is still an amazing opportunity for our community to share the joy of a fireworks display to celebrate the birth of our Nation and our City. Our hope is that it will bring not only literal light into our community, but also put smiles on faces and put the warmth of gratitude in our hearts for the blessings that we have. Being engaged, giving back, and working with our communities and the people who comprise those communities to make our ‘little corner of the world’ even better is a privilege that our entire WesBanco family truly enjoys and appreciates.”
There will be orchestrated parking (with strict social distancing) in surrounding parking lots and patrons are encouraged to come out and enjoy the show. There will be a soundtrack with special announcements that will be broadcasted via local radio stations. A complete list of parking areas and radio stations will be available prior to the event. For more information, please go to www.etownevents.com or check the Elizabethtown City Events Facebook page. The Events Program, which operates out of the Historic State Theater, will continue to be closed to the public until further notice.
“We want to ensure our citizens’ safety but still offer a celebration to everyone that would like to be a part of it,” said Mayor Jeff Gregory. “This location offers a higher point than Freeman Lake Park which means we can shoot off bigger shells and offer a bigger, broader show than ever before. We will be requiring all patrons adhere to the Governor’s social distancing orders that we assume will still be in place at that time.”
