JOB TITLE: Boat Dock Attendant CLASS: 51 – Seasonal
DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation
LOCATION: Freeman Lake Park
REPORTS TO: Freeman Lake Park Manager
POSITION OVERVIEW
Boat Dock Attendants support the daily boat rental operations at Freeman Lake Park and help ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for all park visitors. This position works primarily outdoors and involves assisting patrons on and off rental boats, maintaining equipment, and helping enforce boating and safety policies.
In addition to dock operations, Boat Dock Attendants serve as general support staff for the park, assisting in the park office, performing cleaning duties, and helping with special events hosted at Freeman Lake Park. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, interacting with the public, and being part of a team-based operation.
Boat rentals operate seven days a week, and this position requires availability for weekends, evenings, and holidays throughout the season.
Examples of Duties
- Assist patrons with boarding and exiting rental boats, including kayaks and other watercraft
- Help enforce boat rental rules and lifejacket requirements
- Answer questions and provide customer service to park visitors
- Coordinate with park office staff and the Shift Leader regarding daily operations and any issues that arise
- Clean and prepare rental boats between uses
- Disinfect and organize lifejackets and other safety equipment
- Assist with nightly cleaning and closing procedures in the park office
- Provide general support for Freeman Lake Park operations
- Assist with city-sponsored events and activities held in the park, such as festivals and community events
- Perform other duties as assigned
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment such as kayaks and boats
- Comfortable working on and around water, docks, and uneven surfaces
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to interact professionally with the public
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Willingness to assist in a variety of support roles as needed
Additional Information
- This is a seasonal position based at Freeman Lake Park
- Weekend, evening, and holiday availability is required
- Training will be provided for all assigned duties
