Elizabethtown, KY – Diecks Drive has been temporarily closed to vehicular traffic due to a partial street failure. City Public Works crews placed barricades in the roadway on Saturday afternoon after receiving calls about the road failure.
The City is currently investigating the extent of the failure to design a repair. Over the next few days, City crews will be excavating around the storm drainage pipes in the road pavement to determine the extent of the failure and determine the necessary repair.
The road will remain closed in the 100 block of Diecks Drive to the entrance at Helmwood Plaza Drive until the City crews are able to repair the roadway to assure motorists may safely travel through the area. Residents are asked to use other City streets (such as Village Drive, Bellwood Drive, Savannah Avenue, Sycamore Street, Balmoral Road) to access the areas east of the Diecks Drive and North Dixie Avenue (US 31W) intersection. Businesses fronting along North Dixie Avenue in the Diecks Drive area (Governors Manor Shopping Center) remain accessible from North Dixie Avenue.
The public will be informed of a time schedule for opening the road after City crews have had the opportunity to evaluate the underlying conditions. Mayor Edna Berger has declared this an emergency situation which allows the City to purchase materials to perfect any needed repairs in an expedited manner.
Updates will be provided to local media and on the City’s website at elizabethtownky.org and Facebook page.
