Founders' Day

Inaugural Founders' Day Celebration

Your Community Bank partners with The City of Elizabethtown and Elizabethtown Tourism and Convention Bureau to present Founders’ Day 2016 July 4th at Freeman Lake Park. This year’s line-up will include the United States Army Parachute Team: Golden Knights and the 202nd Army Band of the KY National Guard.
It’s a year of firsts for the Founders’ Day as this will be the first time the Golden Knights will be performing in Elizabethtown for this event. This is also the first time Your Community Bank will be named as title sponsor. Sponsorship plays a vital role to the planning and development of community events.
"The Founders’ Day 4th of July celebration is quickly becoming a community tradition for Elizabethtown," said Ken Dozer, Market President, Hardin County for Your Community Bank. "This event is a great opportunity for families and friends to gather and celebrate the foundation of this city. We take great pride in being involved in our community and this sponsorship is another example of our employees coming together to support our community."
The Park will open at 5:00 pm with the Shoney’s Pie Eating contest and free face painting available for the kids. Food vendors will be selling barbeque, chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, pork sandwiches, lemonade, and ice cream. The 202nd Army Band of the KY National Guard will take the stage at 6:00 pm with the 202nd rock band Fallout at 7:00 pm. The Golden Knights Parachute Team will kick off at 8:00 pm. Fallout will take the stage once again after the Parachute Team has concluded their show. This event is free (except for food vendors) and open to the public. Patrons are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, and their families out for a fun evening at the Park.
Founders’ Day 2016 is sponsored by Your Community Bank, Elizabethtown Tourism and Convention Bureau, City of Elizabethtown, Elizabethtown Flying Service, Swope Family of Dealerships, Bluegrass Cellular, and Shoney’s.
About the Golden Knights
For over fifty-seven years members of the U. S. Army Parachute Team have been marking the milestones of achievement and an evolution of excellence serving as “Ambassadors” of the Army’s only official Demonstration team. The Golden Knights portray the image of being the most formidable parachuting competitors and demonstrators in the world today.
If you mention the name “Golden Knights” to someone today in any of the fifty states, most likely what comes to mind is a phenomenal demonstration they watched in past years at an air show or sporting event. But if you mention it to a sport parachutist, they will most probably think of the competitors they jumped against or heard about in parachute meets across the country or abroad.
The Golden Knights have performed more than 17,000 shows in all 50 states and 48 countries, reaching more than 20,000 people per show. Through demonstrations and public speaking with the Army’s target audience at air shows, schools, sporting events and hospitals, the team is able to direct potential applicants to the on-site Army Recruiters.
The eighty-two men and women who make up the Golden Knights are separated into nine sections –The Black and Gold demonstration teams, a tandem team, four competition teams, an aviation detachment and the headquarters section.
